How to Cook Brown Rice

Ingredients
brown rice (I like the Jap. short rice) 1 cup
filtered water 1 3/4 water
sea salt (opt) 1 pinch
Directions
1. After soaking time is completed,wash and rinse rice and drain using a fine-mesh strainer. (for soaking instructions see “Simple Brown Rice Soaking”). If you didn’t soak the rice just wash it a couple of times till water becomes clear and proceed with regular cooking. NOTE: previously soaked rice needs less water than not-soaked rice.
2. Place drained rice in medium saucepan and add approximately 1 3/4 cups water (or * broth). Bring to a boil. Then, immediately cover and reduce heat until you achieve a gentle simmer. If you have a rice maker, just follow the water amount indicated ( usually 1 cup of rice 1 1/2 cup of water)
3. Cook approximately 25-40 minutes until rice has absorbed the liquid and reached the consistency you desire.
4. Serve as is to accompany a main dish or with some chopped herbs (basil) sesame seeds, chopped scallion, beans and vegetables. Possibilities are unlimited 🙂
